In late 1979, under the Pastoral direction of Fr. Fagan, seven members of Sacred Hearts Parish formed a committee to pursue the idea of a school Development program. The idea came out of discussions from different committees to find a long term solution to help offset the rising costs of education. In March of 1980 it was written “In its quest for making the parish school self-sustaining, Sacred Hearts will provide an atmosphere and an opportunity for a program of ‘planned giving’ for individuals and business enterprises within and beyond our parish borders. [We] shall set up an endowment fund for the sole purpose of financial aid to its parochial school.” Exactly one year later, in 1981, the Endowment Fund was established.
The Endowment Fund is managed by quarterly meetings of the Endowment Investment Board. Members of the Board consist of the Pastor, a Parish Finance Council member, the Bank of Sun Prairie and Edward Jones financial planners, school administrator, and other parishioners. Conservative planning throughout the years has resulted in a $2.7 million dollar Endowment Fund. A percentage of the dividends goes back to the school each fall. Those funds help keep tuition increases to a minimum as well as assist in upgrades to technology, classroom needs, and building & grounds.
The Endowment Fund is an integral part of the financial security of the school, and Catholic education in the Sun Prairie area. The growth of the Endowment depends on the many generous individuals who give each year in the designated church envelopes as well as: Memorials Honorariums Estate Planning & Trusts Your gift becomes a permanent, perpetual source of income to Sacred Hearts School because only the earned income (interest) on the initial donation will be used each year. All gifts received each month are recognized in the bulletin, and in the school’s Annual Report. Sacred Hearts School is grateful for the generous support of the Parish and Sun Prairie community for 30 years of Endowment giving!
